ABOUT THE THEA

PREPARING TO TAKE THE THEA TEST

This section describes the tools available to help you prepare to take the THEA Test.

THEA Test Preparation Quick Reference Guide

A quick reference to THEA Test preparation is available to view or download (at no charge) from the THEA Web site at www.thea.nesinc.com by selecting "Test Preparation Quick Reference." This guide contains study strategies, sample test items, and a description of the skills tested by the THEA Test.

THEA Practice Test

A full-length practice version of the THEA Test is available (at no charge) on the THEA Web site at www.thea.nesinc.com by selecting "Practice Test." In addition to sample test questions, the practice test offers suggestions for how to benefit most from it and provides you with an answer key indicating the correct response for each question. The answer key section also includes a Skill Evaluation Chart that you can use after completing the practice test to help you decide which skills are your strengths and which skills may require extra work.

The Official THEA Test Study Guide

The Official THEA® Test Study Guide contains a detailed instructional chapter on each of the skills eligible for testing, and includes numerous examples and exercises and a full-length practice test complete with an answer key and detailed answer explanations. Each section of the study guide (Reading, Mathematics, and Writing) has a list of study resources and study ideas. This is the only official study guide for the THEA Test. It was written by Evaluation Systems, the developer of the THEA Test. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Texas Education Agency participated in its development.

You may order your copy of The Official THEA® Test Study Guide as follows:
  • If you are registering on the Internet, you may order a THEA Test study guide during the registration process.

  • If you are registering for the test by U.S. mail, use the THEA Test registration form available in the printed registration bulletin, and order a copy of the study guide in section 15.

  • If you are ordering more than one copy or if you are not registering for the test at the present time, you may order a copy of the study guide by using the order form for The Official THEA® Test Study Guide. This form is found in the printed registration bulletin and can also be downloaded and printed as a PDF document from the THEA Web site at www.thea.nesinc.com by selecting “Print Bulletin and Forms (PDF).” Please note that study guides ordered from Evaluation Systems may take up to three weeks for delivery.
If you order a study guide and do not receive it within three weeks, please call (866) 565-4879. If you do not receive your study guide, you are still responsible for attending the test for which you are registered. If you are registering close to your test date, it may be to your advantage to purchase a study guide from a local college bookstore or other retailer.

The Official THEA® Test Study Guide is available as an audio recording. For further information, please contact Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic® (RFB&D®) at www.rfbd.org or (800) 221-4792.
